Hullo, all. I know I missed yesterday, but I promise to be here for the rest of the week. I went to Comics and Collectibles on a mission to get more Swamp Thing books...I'm hooked, even though the ones I'm reading now are post-Alan Moore. Rick Veitch took over both the typewriter and pencilling duties on ST after Moore left the book on issue 64 due to differences between him and company DC Comics. They began putting the tag Sophisticated Suspense on the book, and this peterbed him...he was just writing smartly written stuff, not anything that required the same thing as an R movie rating slapped on it. After he left, the book has stayed on its slow but steady pace. After Swampy "died" in Gotham City, he was stranded in the depths of space, having to piggyback a ride home, one planet at a time. Thinking him dead, the Parliment of Trees(think a group of wise old trees who are keepers of the wisdom of all trees and organic/plant life that has ever lived) created another seed to take up the mantle Earth Elemental to take his place. This has caused choas, because there has always been one elemental at a time. The Parliment want Swampy to kill the upstart and re-take his place as Earth's Elemental, or else root with them forever, drinking deep of their nearly-fathomless knowledge. He chooses not to kill the seed, but instead he wants to retire in seclusion with his wife Abby. Since this is not an option in the mind of the Parliment, they tempt him to root in many ways, and try to kill him as well. "There must be one" they say. "Only one." Things are heating up because in issue 71, Swamp Thing inadvertently frees a spirit to Heaven that has been chosen to be host for the seed. The next issue, John Constantine, one of Swampy's "allies", does away with another potential candidate in retaliation of Swamp Thing's blunder in the previous ish. This helps pick the story up when it could fall into a sleeper. Oh, I almost forgot...I collect comic books from the Silver Age(1960s and 70s). Well, I found a copy of Fantastic Four from 1962 in C and C yesterday for $12.00 and picked it up. I looked at it this morning, and it looked like someone used it for paper mache class. The top half of the pages were separated from the bottom half by what looked like a scissor maniac. It was like a flip book. The top and bottoms moved independantly. It was a pretty interesting story, though...once you learn how to turn the pages that way...lol Well, I gotta run, but I will hopefully speak to you all tomorrow. G'night. Good night Sam...hope you are having a great time:) I miss ya, and the animals are all safe. Love ya
Later
Heath
