Hey folks...just figured I'd tell you about two great reads that I'm into right now. The first is a Philosophy book- it is by Bill Dembski, and it is called Intelligent Design. Intelligent Design is a Philosophical argument for the existence of God, and it is argued very well by Dembski. He relies on Biblical quotes in order to back up his statements, which is harder proof than any that agnostics I have read have been able to produce. It is a bit difficult to grasp some of the concepts, but it is written with the layperson in its sights...he starts the book with an example from The Simpsons.
The second book is a comic called Freaks of the Heartland. It is written by Steve Niles and drawn by Greg Ruth, and lemme tell you, it is quite scary. It appears to be set back during the 30s or so, in a place where religion is strong, an eerie version of the Midwest. It seems that farmers are having some children come out normal, while others, like Will, are monsters. They are highly deformed children who show signs of Gigantism, among other things. Many are slow in the head, and prone to excessive violence if provoked, but Will's brother loves him and simply seeks to take care of his sibling, which is quite difficult because of his father's abusive alcoholic rants.
Both of these books are great ways to kill some dead time. Dembski's book is just that, while only three issues of Freaks of the Heartland have come out, so there is still time to jump on that title before it gains mainstream popularity. Good night to you all...I will read a little more of Dembski's book tonight, and come back with some passages from it tomorrow night for you to peruse and discuss.
Love to you all,
Heath "Leonard" Lail
